myanmar.

Ah, Myanmar — a magical land like I've never seen. To me, it seems like a strange, beautiful mix of India and Vietnam and South Africa and Cambodia.

It's a place where they drive on the right side of the road, but the driver sits on the right side of the car. (!) It's a place where they chew betelnut like tobacco and ruin their teeth. It's a place with a troubled past and a large left-behind presence of missionaries and colonial rule. It's a Southeast Asian country without the constant hum of motorbikes — they mostly drive cars. It's a place where foreigners are still somewhat rare. It's a place where war rages at the borders while the most stunning beauty and kind people exist inland.

A place of contrasts that stole my heart.
